The inspiration of Henri JM Nouwen (pronounced “Now-in”) will be the focus of a 3-book series throughout 2023. The late Nouwen’s spirituality resonates even more today than ever for its ability to invite healing through God’s unfailing love wherever division and fragmentation are encountered. The Wounded Healer: Book & Discussion
“What does it mean to be a minister in our contemporary society?”
– Henri Nouwen, The Wounded Healer, Introduction
What does it mean to minister to our fellow humans in today’s age? How can we serve as a source of healing to others as people of faith in a world where the people around us and we often have a complicated relationship with the very concept of faith? In his book The Wounded Healer, Henri Nouwen explores the idea that facing our own unique areas of struggle, hurt, and fear is the crucial starting point to help offer wholeness and healing to our family members, friends, and larger communities. Join us as we further learn and discuss four key perspectives of suffering Nouwen identified. Aided by his insightful, timeless wisdom, we will use these to explore how to become effective ministers in the midst of the vast, complex issues challenging those around us in the 2020s.
