What?
Has your world ever been changed by a song you heard, a theme or line from a play or movie, or some “truth” or realization spoken to you at a key moment in your life? This is also the realm of Biblical Poetry, where word pictures often re-state or seek to express “what’s really going on” in artful verse throughout the Scriptures in sometimes beautiful, sometimes stark – frequently murky- poetic language.
Come learn, or re-investigate, the essentials of the poetic form of expression, where each line – just like each breath – is key to all the other lines. Gain new understanding of the hidden treasure of Biblical Poetry in a way you will never forget as we explore how to read, and ways to process, the various styles of ancient verse found in the Old & New Testaments, with the incredible resources of BibleProject.com. As with so many explorations of art, the individual and group exploration of this medium promises to both challenge and re-invigorate the inner-workings of your own life and, in particular, help you see key ways God longs to grow you as a person through all experiences.
We will also devote time to share and discuss to lines from attendees’ favorite poems and song lyrics, delving into poetic offerings, and hear from a diverse range of poetic artists & lyricists, including Rainer Maria Rilke, Maya Angelou, Mary Oliver, Leonard Cohen and (name your favorite here).
