As Christians, we find ourselves in the most sacred time of the liturgical year. But with our day-to-day tasks and the added stresses of a pandemic it can be a struggle to find time and energy to focus on this season.
In the midst of this tension, throughout this Lenten season, one of our teachers, Catherine Anderson, has gifted us with beautiful Lenten reflections during our Sunday mornings. Using Visio Divina, a “form of divine seeing in which we prayerfully invite God to speak to our hearts as we look at an image” (www.lindsayboyer.com) Catherine’s soothing voice draws us into the artwork and her thoughtful questions lead us ever deeper. You can always revisit these meditations by replaying the Sunday services on the Liminal Church of Ventura YouTube channel. You heart will thank you.
Moving through Holy Week we are reminded of all the emotions Jesus must have gone through – triumph, love, betrayal, and ultimately joy. This is not the path for the weak of heart.
Palm Sunday (March 28th) commemorated Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. You can watch our Palm Sunday service here!
On Maundy Thursday (April 1st), we experienced a contemplative service via Zoom together, using visuals and an interactive liturgy to remind ourselves of both the intimacy and love of Jesus’ connection with his followers at the Last Supper and also the pain and darkness that followed on Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
But then! Instead of pain is healing, instead of darkness is life. The joy and hope of Easter! The promise of life and forgiveness and renewal. It’s a revelation that is always welcome and needed. Join us on Sunday, April 4th at 10am for our service on our YouTube channel to rejoice together in the gift of Jesus’ life!
